The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi in Benue State, has called on security agencies to investigate the kidnap of one of its members, Dr. Joseph Ortser.

Ortser, of the Department of Wildlife and Range Management, was abducted from his house in Federal Housing Estate, North Bank area of Makurdi, on Friday night by unknown gunmen.

Daily Trust gathered that the lecturer escaped from his abductors and ran into Gbagyo village in Guma Local Government Area.

Acting chairman of ASUU in the institution, Dr. Bemgba Anjembe, said at a press conference in Makurdi, that security agencies should investigate the incident.

Anjembe said though the abducted lecturer was suspended for anti-union activities, it noted that ASUU defends the rights of every eligible citizen.

He expressed gratitude to the Gbagyo community for their assistance.

Acting spokesman of police in the state, Matthew Okwu, confirmed the abduction of the lecturer and his rescue, adding that investigation into the matter has already commenced.
