23-yr-old commits suicide after writing UNILAG Post-UTME
A 23-year-old man who wrote the 2015 post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) test of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has committed suicide.
The victim, identified as Ugochukwu, was found hanging in his apartment located at 311 Road, FESTAC Town on Sunday.
His mother and sister had returned home after church service to find his dangling body hanging from the ceiling fan in the living room.
Officers of the FESTAC Police Division were alerted about the discovery.
According to Punch report, the deceased was seeking admissions into UNILAG and had written the schools screening exams which held from Wednesday 12th to Friday 14th of August.
A police source told the paper that Ugochukwu had attempted suicide two weeks before the Sunday incident.
“Nobody can say why he committed suicide. But two Sundays ago, they caught him mixing cement to drink.
"The family members had actually gone to church, and he had stayed behind.
"It was a neighbor who caught him and alerted the family members."
The source said the deceased refuse to tell anyone why he tried to take his life and was left alone.
“This morning, the family members went to church again, and Ugochukwu decided to stay back.
"Nobody suspected anything. It was when the family members came back that they found his corpse."
