As unscrupulous elements are bent on looting students’ treasury
The prevalent menace of looting and embezzlement of funds in the Law Students’ Society (LSS) has assumed a disgraceful and dangerous dimension. The intriguing aspect of the phenomenal drama is the hypocrisy with which the song of corruption among officers of our Students’ Bodies on our campus is being rendered. The tone is taking! The tune is discordant! The tempo is counterfeit! The rendition is in disorganized “staccato”! Like it is the case with the similarly, proverbially tragic that it is the head of the security that is looting the treasury! By way of illustration, for those who are current with contemporary records and history of armed robbery in Nigeria, what do you expect when you send an Iyamu to arrest an Anini?
It is on record that within the last three (3) to four (4) sessions, starting from 2010/2011 academic session, there have been sorts of concerted efforts by LSS EXCOS to loot the treasury of the Society. The Olubunmi Oluwaseun (Seun Ambassador) era witness the impeachment of the Vice President (FALAYE Deliverance) on LSS Week decoration scandal. The succeeding executives of LSS eventually inherited about 1.3 million naira remains of looted funds from Ambassador’s administration. The 2011/2012 ‘DAYO Ogunyemi’s (Governor Dayo) led LSS tomfoolery administration where the incumbent LSS President (OLANIRAN Quadri) served as Principal Liaison Officer (PLO), the office he held where they collaborated with the kleptomaniac president to loot LSS funds, the administration that met 1.3 million in LSS account merely left a paltry One Hundred and Forty seven (N147) naira with debt amounting to over Three Hundred Thousand Naira (N300,000) for the BOLANLE Morankinyo (Shark) led LSS executive after wastefully purchasing a 5th hand cargo bus for Law Students, the looting did not end with Dayo Ogunyemi administration (an administration that was adjudged the most corrupt LSS administration) which saw the impeachment of one JOSHUA SWAGDAUGHT the Director of Social of LSS (a close ally to SHARK and GBOLOKS) on Goldie show scandal by the LSRC in 2012, but it extended to BOLANLE Morakinyo (SHARK) administration that was labeled as the most despotic LSS administration where the President and other notable executives engages in nefarious and ill conducts like smoking Indian hemp, converting LSS property for personal use, taking advantage of unsuspecting law students etc. The Bolanle Morakinyo led LSS Exco are not only autocratic, they are also corrupt as they couldn’t account for how they spent LSS fund in their tenure having a rubber stamp LSRC under the leadership of one ANUFORO Amanda (Speaker). The notorious sport director (Gboloks) an unrepentant Indian helm smoker cum co-despot like Shark refused to pay the winner of Animashaun Football Competition their entitlements despite the huge fund they acquired from dues and donations. All the Shark atrocities was let go under the watch of the ambitious Audit Committee led by the Chairman, IBIKUNLE Isaac (who later became the Students’ Union President).
The uninteresting and unentertaining era of Shark led LSS came to an end as the society voted in BOLA Okiji (PILOT) a former PLO to Seun Ambassador in 2010/2011 that left about 1.3 million naira cash in LSS coffers. BOLA Okiji Pilot, though innocent in appearance but with so many ulterior motives, to loot and drag the society name to disrepute by colliding with some of his corrupt executive members to illicitly obtain money from a Port-harcourt based Ife Law graduate, was later exposed by some of his sidelined EXCO Members on the shabby sales of LSS bus purchased by the corrupt DAYO Ogunyemi and damaged by the prodigal BOLANLE Morankinyo Shark. The rubber stamped parliament (LSRC) eventually suspended him after intense pressure from conscious Law Students calling for his impeachment, the suspension that was eventually upturned by the ‘good for nothing’ Judicial Council.
OLANIRAN QUADRI; A PRESIDENT WITH A QUESTINONABLE ANTECEDENT?
Now we have at the helm of affairs of LSS, OLANIRAN Quadri a former Principal Liaison Officer (PLO) of the most corrupt LSS administration of DAYO Ogunyemi (Governor Dayo). He was presumed to have collaborated with his former boss in looting the treasury because of his perceived silence on issues of paramount importance at that time, but he denied. Now he is now the President of LSS that cannot account for over two thousand naira (#2,000) collected from the fresh students as dues, the president of LSS that cannot account for various money he has collected so far from donors, LSS bus sales, and other annual dues from stale students, LSS book sales etc. Despite the University Authority directive to all Students Association not to collect more than #500 as dues, the OLANIRAN Quadri proceeded to collect outrageous extra #2,500 +#500= #3,000 as compulsory due for packages from over 390 fresh students in the faculty whereas the package given to the students does not commensurate the #3,000 they paid. Truth being told, the present crop of Law Students Society leadership is corrupt and they are doing all things possible to sea-page their corruption. They want to enhance the usage of the semi-conscious LSRC to achieve this their ulterior motives by urging the LSRC to use the overzealous Disciplinary Committee of the LSRC headed by a close friend and roommate of LSS President and a ‘wounded LSRC Speaker (CAVAL)’ to illegally try a mere disagreement between two congressmen at the congress of 17th of August 2015, in their bid to come out with the verdict of suspending some conscious students form further participating in LSS activities for a period of time; these persons who they perceive as a staunch opposition to their looting agenda. The Law Students must rise up to the occasion and keep an eagle eyes on the LSS executives and LSRC members because their conspiracy is becoming alarming and towing a reactionary dimension; the same LSRC that cannot suspend or discipline its own members who cannot follow the constitution stricto sensu.
